Job summary

Hoekstra Electric is seeking a Commercial Data Cabling Technician to install and maintain data cabling, fiber and video surveillance systems at West Michigan job sites. You will work independently and with a team to ensure reliable networks and security systems.

The role requires experience with Cat5/6/7 and fiber, blue­print reading, and the ability to mentor others. You will handle mounting, terminating cables, and ensuring safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years with Cat5/6/7 & Fiber, surveillance and access control systems
• Ability to read a blueprint with data symbols
• Training and leading others
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset
• Capable of receiving direction, providing constructive feedback
• Hands-on tasks such as mounting equipment and terminating cables
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Installing, maintaining, and repairing cable infrastructure.
• Performing maintenance on existing cabling systems.
• Testing newly installed or relocated cables according to company specifications.
• Identifying and removing redundant cabling.
• Installing network equipment, surveillance systems, access control systems, etc.
• Troubleshooting issues with cable networks.
• Installing cable support structures and organizing cabling per safety rules.
• Labeling, pulling, and dressing category 3, 5e, 6 and fiber optic cables.
