Job summary

U.S. News & World Report is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, build and operate data pipelines and backend services powering hospital insights products.

You will work with Python, PostgreSQL and React in an AI‑first environment, collaborating with product owners to deliver reliable data products at scale. The role emphasizes data correctness, ETL automation, and production operations, with exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of professional software development experience with ownership of production backend or data systems
• Strong Python experience building and maintaining services, batch jobs or data tooling in production
• Significant experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database at scale
• Hands-on ETL or data pipeline ownership—data modeling, batch processing, automation, reliability
• Experience owning APIs or backend services consumed by applications or internal customers
• Working knowledge of React or similar SPA frameworks
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) or AI-powered features
• Comfort with Unix-based environments, Git and modern code review practices
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate data pipelines and backend services powering hospital insights products
• Improve ETL automation, monitoring and data quality as volumes grow
• Partner with engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders through releases
• Employ an AI-first approach to investigation, implementation and code review
• Develop and maintain clean, well-tested code
• Mentor others and promote team-wide quality beyond individual contributions
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders on requirements for new features
