Job summary

Cordance is seeking a Data Architect to define enterprise data architecture and unite reporting across Cordance Commerce products. This hands-on technical leadership role turns fragmented data into a scalable, governed data platform.

You will collaborate with DBAs, BI, engineering, product, and finance to design migrations, data models, governance, and trusted data for dashboards and cross‑product reporting.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data engineering, architecture, or BI with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Experience designing enterprise data warehouses, lakehouses, or analytical platforms and migrating data from multiple operational systems.
• Strong data-modeling across conceptual, logical, and physical models, including dimensional modeling and normalized designs.
• Hands-on proficiency with SQL, relational databases, ETL/ELT patterns, orchestration, data quality, metadata, lineage, and BI semantic models.
• Experience separating reporting workloads from high-volume transactional systems and designing for performance, resilience, scalability, and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Own the target-state data architecture and roadmap for a unified reporting and analytics platform across Cordance Commerce products.
• Assess current transactional databases, data pipelines, reporting tools, and customer-specific reports; document dependencies, duplication, performance risks, and migration constraints.
• Define a shared enterprise data model, canonical definitions, master-data strategy, and system-of-record ownership for core entities such as customer, item, store, and transaction.
• Design separation of transactional and analytical workloads using cloud data warehouses or lakehouses; evaluate platforms like Snowflake and recommend solutions based on scale, security, cost, and operability.
• Create phased migration strategy for consolidating reporting while maintaining business continuity and customer commitments.
• Develop patterns and standards for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, semantic models, APIs, data quality, lineage, metadata, retention, archival, and observability.
• Rationalize Solutions standard report catalog and enable governed self-service analytics with reusable datasets and configurable reporting patterns.
• Guide DBAs and engineering teams on database architecture, PostgreSQL and MS SQL modernization, and backup/recovery.
• Establish data governance covering ownership, access controls, privacy, security, auditability, quality thresholds, and change management.
• Lead technical discovery, architecture reviews, proofs of concept, and vendor evaluations; translate findings into designs, sequencing, estimates, risks, and investments.
• Provide hands-on guidance to delivery teams to ensure new capabilities align with target architecture and avoid data silos.
• Enable trusted dashboards and cross-product reporting for operations, customer, financial, and executive decision-making.
• Enterprise Data Architecture: converts complex data estates into target-state architectures and phased roadmaps.
• Technical Depth: designs modern warehouses or lakehouses, dimensional and relational models, pipelines, semantic layers, and reporting platforms.
• Business Translation: connects architecture to customer value, product performance, and business outcomes.
• Data Governance: establishes ownership, definitions, lineage, security, and lifecycle controls.
• Migration & Adoption: plans incremental transitions with minimal disruption; builds adoption among DBAs, BI, engineers, users, and product stakeholders.
• Governance & Cost Effectiveness: defines ownership, access controls, usage metrics, and scalable reporting models.
