Job summary

Archer, in partnership with Verisk, seeks a Data Architect to define and execute an architecture that enables trusted data across AWS-based products. You will model, govern, and secure data, bridging engineering, analytics, security, and business teams to deliver durable data products.

You will shape data standards, catalogs, lineage, and privacy controls while guiding platform choices and technology evolution. This role is based in the Boston area with heavy collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in data engineering, database architecture, analytics engineering, or software engineering with recent ownership of data architecture in AWS environments.
• Strong track record designing enterprise data platforms and data-intensive products for operational and analytical workloads.
• Deep expertise in data modeling (relational, dimensional, NoSQL, domain-driven).
• Strong SQL and database engineering knowledge across PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Aurora, Redshift, DynamoDB.

Responsibilities

• Define target data architecture and phased roadmap for operational systems, data lakes, warehouses, and analytics platforms.
• Establish domain-oriented data models and product boundaries to clarify ownership and reduce duplication.
• Design logical/physical models, canonical schemas, event structures, data contracts, and master/reference data approaches.
• Set architecture standards for ingestion, transformation, storage, sharing, retention, and deletion across batch, streaming, API, and event-driven patterns.
• Architect AWS data solutions using services such as S3, Lake Formation, Glue, Redshift, Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, and API Gateway.
• Connect transactional apps with BI, analytics, ML, and external use cases without compromising operations.
• Define metadata, cataloging, lineage, quality, observability, semantics, and SLAs for trusted data.
• Embed privacy and security into data design, including IAM, encryption, masking, tokenization, tenant isolation, access controls, auditability, retention.
• Guide database/workload design across relational, NoSQL, warehouse, and object storage technologies.
• Collaborate with product/business teams to translate information needs into data capabilities with clear dependencies and trade-offs.
• Evaluate new AWS services and data patterns through proofs of concept and evidence-based recommendations.
• Provide architecture oversight from discovery to production and coach engineers in effective data design.
