As we scale our technology stack and prepare for broader rollouts, we’re seeking a Senior Data Architect to evaluate, design, enhance, and interface our database systems with our partner institutions to ensure scalability, performance, and data integrity.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a full-time Senior Data Architect to lead data design and optimization for one of our flagship platforms. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and analytics teams to ensure that our data infrastructure can support current needs and future growth.

This is a high-impact project ideal for an architect with experience in fast-moving, data-intensive environments—preferably in edtech, SaaS, or mission-aligned platforms.

Key Responsibilities

●Evaluate current database design and infrastructure

●Design scalable, secure, and performant data models

●Define and implement database best practices (indexing, normalization, etc.)

●Work with developers to optimize query performance and storage strategies

●Design and support data migration or integration plans

●Ensure data integrity, security, and backup processes are in place

●Document architecture, schema designs, and maintenance protocols

●Architect and implement a scalable data warehousing solution to support product, business intelligence, reporting, and AI use cases

●Define best practices for ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and integration with internal tools

Qualifications

●7+ years of experience in database architecture or administration

●Deep expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and experience with NoSQL solutions (e.g., MongoDB, Redis)

●Strong understanding of performance tuning, database scaling strategies, and cloud-based architecture (e.g., AWS RDS, Aurora, etc.)

●Experience working on data-heavy applications in edtech, SaaS, or social impact tech is a strong plus

●Experience designing and optimizing schemas for analytics, AI/ML use cases, or complex transactional systems

●Familiarity with data privacy and compliance (GDPR, FERPA, etc.) is a bonus

●Excellent documentation and communication skills

●Experience designing and managing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like dbt, Airflow, or custom solutions

●Familiarity with data lakes, dimensional modeling, and star/snowflake schema design
