Job summary

Ryan Specialty Group is seeking a Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter for Directors and Officers / Management Liability. The role oversees workflows, evaluates risk, and negotiates terms to optimize profitability of complex accounts.

The ideal candidate has 7–8 years in P&C underwriting, a bachelor’s degree, and relevant licenses; CPCU or CIC is preferred. You will build broker relationships, mentor staff, and help shape underwriting strategy.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7-8 years of experience in Property and Casualty underwriting.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Risk Management, Actuarial or Business Administration preferred.
• State P&C and/or surplus line licenses required; CPCU/CIC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and strategically manages workflows for new property and casualty business and renewals for D&O/Management Liability.
• Evaluates submissions, prices risks, and makes acceptance/decline decisions to sustain underwriting profit.
• Drives risk assessment considering coverage value, location, usage, and safety features.
• Determines coverage limits and premiums, maintaining portfolio health and discipline.
• Negotiates terms with brokers and pursues cross-sell opportunities while ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Develops strategic initiatives to grow the book of business and improve retention.
• Manages broker and agent relationships to deliver superior service and growth.
• Trains and mentors new underwriters on guidelines, processes, and systems.
• Keeps abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and adjusts strategies accordingly.
