Job summary

Harvey Nash is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Specialist in Frankfort, KY to support KY K-12 security services, including firewall, AD, VPN, DNS, and Defender workloads. The role involves Tier-3 troubleshooting, incident response, risk assessments, audits, and collaboration with school districts and vendors.

This long-term contract offers a hybrid work location with on-site presence required weekly, and requires coordination with KDE teams and MSS services.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in troubleshooting Tier-3 issues in large security environments.
• Experience supporting KY K-12 security operations and vendors.
• Ability to perform incident response, risk assessments, and audits.
• Willingness to provide after-hours support as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform firewall management, rule set configuration, validation, and advanced troubleshooting for KDE and KY K-12 districts.
• Provide operational support and management of the KY K-12 Enterprise Active Directory environment.
• Manage and maintain an enterprise remote access VPN solution for all KY K-12 users.
• Serve as a technical project resource for major security initiatives in KY K-12 districts.
• Manage statewide DNS infrastructure and related troubleshooting.
• Oversee enterprise DDoS mitigation within the MSS group.
• Investigate alerts/incidents using Microsoft 365 Defender and respond accordingly.
• Assist with risk assessments, vulnerability remediation, audits, and records requests.
• Provide Tier 3 escalation support and lead technical discussions with customers.
• Other duties as assigned.

We’re in search of SeniorCybersecurity Specialist to operate and support state-wide KY K-12 securityservices, including firewalls, Active Directory, VPN, DNS, DDoS protection, andMicrosoft 365 Defender. The role requires strong expertise in troubleshootingcomplex Tier-3 issues while collaborating closely with school districts,vendors, and internal technical teams. The individual will also contribute toincident response, risk assessments, audits, and major security initiatives,with occasional after-hours support as needed.

Job Description

This position will be assigned to theSchool Security Services Team to maintain supported security services that ouroffice within KDE provides to the 171 school districts across Kentucky and KDEemployees. This role involves direct collaboration and troubleshooting withschool district technical staff, vendors, partners, and other KDE technicalteams to ensure effective support and service delivery. In addition, this position will assist withcreating strategies to maintain our current services and serve as acybersecurity role for the team. These services include a large ManagedSecurity Services (MSS) Premises-Based Firewall Solution at each site, a singleactive directory forest with 180 domains servicing over 750,000 users, multipleMicrosoft 365 Online offerings, and many other critical, high visibilityidentity and security services. This role may require work outside of standardbusiness hours occasionally, to ensure the proper functioning of supportedsystems and the timely completion of critical deliverables. Theseresponsibilities will be determined at the discretion of the manager and/or inaccordance with the organization's policies.

• Provideoperational support and management of the KY K-12 Enterprise Active Directoryenvironment in cooperation with Microsoft and other internal teams.?
• Manageand maintain an enterprise remote access VPN solution for all KY K-12 users,including configuration changes, applying updates, and troubleshooting issues.
• Serveas a technical project resource for major security initiatives in KY K-12school districts.
• Managestatewide DNS infrastructure, including configuration changes andtroubleshooting DNS-related issues
• Manageenterprise DDoS mitigation services within a Managed Security Services group.
• Investigateand respond to alerts and incidents using the Microsoft 365 Defender suite.
• Assistwith security risk assessments, vulnerability scanning and remediation, auditresponses, and open records requests.?
• ProvideQ&A and Tier 3 escalation support for KY K-12 school district customers,directly troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. Assist or leadtechnical conversations, troubleshooting sessions, and presentations to thesecustomers.
