Job summary

Roanoke County seeks a Cybersecurity Engineer to design, implement and continuously improve the County’s security infrastructure. You will own threat management, vulnerability assessments, and incident response, collaborating with SOC and IT teams to enforce security policies.

Required five+ years in IT security, a Bachelor's degree in a computer field, and Security+ as well as CISSP or equivalent certifications. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, on-site environment in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible IT or information security experience.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license and security certifications (CompTIA Security+ and CISSP or equivalent).
• Proficiency with Windows, Linux, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, MITRE ATT&CK, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CJIS.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cybersecurity architecture and defense systems.
• Perform threat and vulnerability management and incident response.
• Coordinate with security leadership and SOC for incident handling and root-cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local security standards.
• Develop secure configurations and automate security processes.
• Lead cyber-risk assessments and security testing activities.
