Job summary

County of Roanoke Virginia is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to design, implement, and sustain secure IT defenses across county systems. You will lead threat management, risk assessments, and incident response in collaboration with the Cybersecurity Division.

The role requires 5+ years in IT/security, a Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, and CISSP or equivalent certification. Virginia driver’s license and strong knowledge of NIST CSF, cloud security, and IAM are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience.
• Five+ years of IT or information security experience.
• Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record.
• CompTIA Security+ and CISSP or equivalent certification.
• Strong knowledge of NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with cloud security and IAM design.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and improve cybersecurity infrastructure and defenses.
• Lead threat and vulnerability management and incident response activities.
• Collaborate with IT teams to ensure secure architectures and configurations.
• Coordinate with security leadership and SOC for incident handling and root-cause analysis.
• Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, controls, and documentation.
• Research new threats and technologies to continuously improve security posture.
• Support disaster recovery and continuity of operations planning.
