Job summary

Eliassen Group is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer in Cary, NC for a hybrid role (three days onsite weekly). You will triage security events, review configurations, and lead security initiatives across on-prem and cloud environments.

You will work with Palo Alto firewalls, SASE, IAM, and Microsoft Security Suite to protect enterprise networks. Bachelor’s degree required and 5+ years of experience; W2 employment offered with a 10% bonus.

Qualifications

• Zero Trust design and implementation experience with ZTNA platforms.

Our client seeks a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer who will operate as a trusted technical advisor and hands-on engineer across network, cloud, and Zero Trust security domains. You will triage security events, conduct configuration and hygiene reviews, and lead project-based security initiatives. You will collaborate with senior peers, propose solutions, and drive decisions that align security with business objectives.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity, offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Qualified applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis.

Salary: $130,000 - $135,000/ yr. w2 + 10% Bonus

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade next-generation firewall solutions to enforce network security policies and mitigate advanced threats.
• Configure and deploy cloud-focused security tools, including CASB, WAF, and cloud-native security services.
• Architect and deploy SASE solutions to protect distributed networks and remote users.
• Implement and optimize centralized identity and access management aligned to least privilege principles.
• Leverage Microsoft Security Suite for threat detection, investigation, and response across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Develop and implement cybersecurity policies aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct security assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend remediation to improve security posture.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to communicate security concepts and advance security initiatives.
• Perform security triage, incident investigation, and operational troubleshooting.
• Execute security configuration reviews, audit support, and hygiene checks, identifying gaps and proposing improvements.
• Lead security improvement projects and strategic annual initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• 5+ years in cybersecurity, network security, or security engineering with a senior-level mindset to assess problems, whiteboard solutions, and make informed recommendations.
• Deep hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls and broader network security concepts.
• Zero Trust design and implementation experience. Zscaler preferred, with consideration for Netskope, Illumio, Prisma Access, or similar ZTNA platforms.
• Strong networking foundation, with Azure network security preferred; AWS experience valued; understanding of Application Gateways, WAFs, segmentation, and cloud security architecture.
• Experience with security configuration reviews, audits, hygiene assessments, and remediation.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Automation or scripting experience with Ansible, Python, and/or PowerShell preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; approximately 5% travel.
