Job summary

Wilson Elser seeks an experienced litigation attorney to lead cyber and data privacy class actions. The role is based in Chicago but nationwide applicants are welcome and may report to regional offices. This position offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of complex litigation experience, a JD from an accredited law school, and class action expertise. Strong research, writing, and communication skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of complex litigation experience in state and federal courts.
• JD from an accredited law school.
• Class action litigation experience required.
• Cybersecurity and data privacy background preferred.
• Excellent research and writing skills.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Experience defending data privacy class actions (BIPA, CIPA, VPPA) a plus.
• Working knowledge of state and federal rules of civil procedure.
• Highly organized and deadline-driven.

Responsibilities

• Defense of privacy lawsuits and data breach class actions nationwide (including MDL proceedings).
• Drafting and arguing dispositive motions, including motions to dismiss, motions to strike, opposing class certification, motions for summary judgment.
• Managing strategy and timelines for multiple class action cases and coordinating removal, consolidation, and case organization efforts.
• Preparing and responding to written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and working with expert witnesses.
• Participating in mediations for class action settlements, and drafting settlement papers for court approval.
