Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial and housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality of university facilities.
  • Clean and sanitize offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas; mop, vacuum, and perform floor care.
  • Move furniture as needed and assist other departments; report safety hazards to supervisors.
  • Monitor inventory of custodial supplies and dispose of waste per policy.
  • Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime during peak periods.

Job description

Associated Students UCLA, as a responsive student-centered organization, provides innovative and excellent services, programs, products, and facilities for the entire UCLA community. ASUCLA was created when the campus first opened in 1919. Even in the very early years, ASUCLA meant student government, student publications, and student services such as a bookstore and cafeteria. Today, ASUCLA has evolved into a four-part organization. These four entities collectively make up the largest student association in the country. The four entities are:

  • Undergraduate Students Association – elected representatives of the undergraduate student body.
  • Graduate Students Association – elected representatives of the graduate student body.
  • Student Media – this includes the Daily Bruin, UCLARadio.com, the Bruin Life Yearbook, and seven different magazines.
  • Services & Enterprises – this division is designed to meet the everyday needs of students and the campus community. Major divisions are the Student Union, Event Services, UCLA Restaurants, UCLA Store, UCLA Photography, and Trademarks & Licensing.

Goals of Associated Students UCLA:

Products - To provide essential and convenient items that are easily accessible, of high quality, and low cost, including, but not limited to, academic support, food, trademark merchandise, and convenience products. In addition, to continue evaluating the utility and convenience of all products to make improvements that will best serve the UCLA community.

Facilities - To provide a welcoming environment that contains as much space as possible for the optimal functioning of general academic support, student governments, student organizations, and social gatherings. To have state-of-the-art venues for programming and efficient, aesthetic, and multi-functional commercial outlets.

Programs - To provide and support a diversified array of programming by prioritizing student-run, student-initiated, student-centered programming that reflects the needs of the campus community in order to enhance educational, cultural, and developmental social interaction.

Services - To provide an outstanding level of support to student government, student groups, and student programs through the state-of-the-art office and community spaces, and by providing adequate financial resources and personnel to ensure an active and vibrant campus life.

Senior Custodian

Hourly Ratee: $25.00

Department: Maintenance Custodial

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Custodian Manager, perform comprehensive custodial and housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality of university facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing offices, restrooms, hallways, stairways, elevators, entrances, garages, and surrounding exterior areas; sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and shampooing carpets; and performing floor care such as stripping, waxing, and polishing. Maintain restrooms by deodorizing, restocking supplies, and addressing minor issues such as unclogging toilets. Assists other areas of the Division reporting damaged or missing items to ASUCLA.

Clean and polish surfaces including furniture, glass, mirrors, windows, walls, blinds, and metal fixtures (brass and chrome). Move and arrange furniture and equipment as needed. Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, compost and recycling.

Monitor and control inventory and usage of custodial and paper supplies. Ensure all assigned areas are secured upon completion by locking doors and reporting suspicious activity, safety hazards, or area problems, e.g., lights out, leaking faucet, out of order commodes, or other apparent safety hazards to Building Managers and/or Custodial Manager

Follow all established safety procedures and maintain service quality consistent with organizational standards. Assist other departments and complete special assignments as needed. Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and overtime during peak periods.

Qualifications

Requires 6+ months custodial experience that includes manual cleaning, and operation of floor cleaning/ carpet shampooing equipment. Experience must demonstrate: effective handling of multiple tasks within established timelines; the ability to follow written work orders; proficient and safe operation of hand tools and cleaning equipment; effective customer service skills; effective communication skills. Certain schedules are included in the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ (“DMV”) PULL NOTICE SYSTEM. ASUCLA will receive notices of any convictions for moving vehicle violations, both on and off the job. Employment is contingent on the maintenance of a valid CA driver’s license and good driving record, as defined by the DMV and ASUCLA.

Physical Requirements

Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, gripping, pulling, pushing, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasional up to 3 hours.
