Department Summary

We provide custodial services for UCLA’s over 12.5 million square feet of state‑supported and client‑requested space. We serve all areas of the university, including specialized areas such as vivarium, recreational facilities, wet and dry laboratories, and patient care areas. Our team of dedicated and trained custodians delivers the highest level of service, operating seven days a week.

Position Summary

The role involves maintaining sanitary and safe environments across UCLA’s campus, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards are consistently met in 24‑hour operations.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual offers consider budget, prior experience, skills, education, licensure and certifications, and other business factors.

Qualifications

• Six months of prior custodial experience (preferred).
• Working knowledge of custodial cleaning, general maintenance duties, and the equipment used by custodial staff (required).
• Working knowledge of floor‑care machines such as stripping machines, waxers/buffers, and water pickups (preferred).
• Ability to maintain highest quality services, consistent with university and department standards (required).
• Oral communication skills in English to convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information (required).
• Reading standard English text to follow written orders, read product labels and equipment instructions, and perform tasks safely (required).
• Writing simple English words and phrases with correct grammar and spelling for notes to leads or supervisors (required).
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments (required).
• Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and methodologies (required).
• Consistent punctuality and good attendance (required).
• Availability to work overtime, weekends, and various shifts (required).
• Ability to establish cooperative, respectful relationships with peers, supervisors, administrators, customers, and visitors (required).

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Valid California driver’s license if required to operate a university vehicle (preferred).

Special Conditions for Employment

• Background check: Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion.
• Age requirement: Candidates must be 18 years or older.
• Pre‑placement physical: Employment is contingent upon satisfactory physical examination.
• Driving record: Position requires a satisfactory driving record under the California DMV Pull Notice System.

Schedule

Evenings: 5:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m., Monday‑Friday (primary). Wednesday‑Sunday: 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. Limited availability in the morning.
