Job summary

Onward Solutions is seeking a Senior C&S Designer III in Houston to develop initial layouts and revise CAD files, working from markups or verbal directions to meet client and company requirements.

You will create and modify 2D/3D drawings, ensure QA/QC, and coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and GIS teams, while maintaining schedules and standards. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to understand, communicate and apply engineering concepts.
• Expert proficiency with CAD and other software packages (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CadWorx Structure, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Google Earth).
• Expert 3D modelling capability.

Responsibilities

Reports To: Lead Civil and Structural Designer

Location: Houston, Texas

Summary:

A Senior C&S Designer III (SD III) is responsible for developing initial layouts, overseeing revisions of existing computer aided design (CAD) files, providing technical assistance to the project team, and creating/manipulating drawings from conceptual markups or verbal instructions to the Company’s or Client’s requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Efficiently create and modify drawings and 3D models, integrating designer/engineering markups and adhering to company and client standards.
• Prepare and maintain all drawings and standards in full compliance with project and company requirements.
• Perform preliminary QA/QC and checking of all drawings and 3D models.
• Ensure seamless continuity between conceptual and detailed designs.
• Assist in developing design criteria for various projects and proposals.
• Coordinate designs effectively with other disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, and GIS.
• Apply basic engineering concepts and perform calculations to support design packages.
• Guarantee high-quality deliverables and consistently meet project schedules.
• Interface with clients as needed to provide or acquire project information.
• Actively participate in drawing reviews and coordination meetings.
• Strictly follow all corporate safety protocols.
• Some travel may be required.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Strong ability to understand, communicate and apply engineering concepts.
• Expert proficiency with CAD and other software packages in standalone configuration as well as network setups (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CadWorx Structure, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Google Earth).
• Expert ability of modelling in a 3D environment.
• Ability to identify impact of changes on other disciplines and communicate that impact effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to organize and prioritize project workload for self and others.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Team player – able to communicate and relate well with others

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Occasional lifting of office supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to move around the office for daily tasks and meetings, and job site visits, when required.
