Duration: Remote, with an option to become FT.
About the Role
As a Senior CRM Engineer, you’ll own that platform: building what the business needs through supported means, keeping it upgrade-safe, and retiring the technical debt left from the build phase. The bar isn’t only “does it work,” but “will it survive the next platform update, and can the next engineer read it.”
What you’ll do
- Build and extend Dynamics 365 through supported extension points (plugins, Power Automate, client scripting, and model-driven configuration), choosing the right tool for the problem and recording why.
- Run solution management and ALM: managed solutions, environment strategy, source control, and repeatable deployment.
- Implement the security model correctly, with field-level security as the first instrument for protecting sensitive data.
- Review incoming requests against the upgrade path, and offer the supported alternative rather than only the objection.
- Retire remaining technical debt from the build phase, consolidating redundant processes and unnecessary synchronous plugins.
- Own the source side of our CRM-to-Snowflake data feed, in partnership with our data team, so changes don’t surprise downstream users.
- Know where our engineering stops and our vendors’ starts (Pixl8 and Microsoft), and route requests to the right side.
- Mentor a CRM Developer II through pairing and code review, so the platform is understood by more than one person.
What success looks like
- First 90 days: you’re productive on the live platform without shadowing, you have a prioritized map of the remaining technical debt, and two or three concrete complexity reductions are scoped.
- Year one: the CRM is two people deep, with the CRM Developer II working independently; the data feed’s source side is stable and documented; technical debt is measurably reduced; and new work ships with documentation and tests.
What we’re looking for
Required
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with the majority in Dynamics 365 CE/CRM development
- Expert C# plugin development: execution pipeline and stages, sync vs. async registration, performance troubleshooting, and blocking invalid operations correctly within a transaction
- Monitoring and logging for plugins and integrations (e.g., Application Insights)
- Deep knowledge of the security model: business units, teams, security roles, and field-level security
- Dynamics 365 Web API and SDK, and Power Platform (Power Automate, Dataverse)
- Solution management and ALM as normal practice: managed solutions, source control, and environment strategy
- Experience taking over an existing Dynamics 365 implementation with limited documentation, and making pragmatic fix-or-rebuild decisions
- Care with sensitive and regulated data: access control and auditability as design constraints
- Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders, including the ability to push back with a supported alternative
- A habit of documenting what you build and teaching others
Preferred
- Dataverse data export or change-data-capture feeds to a data warehouse
- Integrating Dynamics 365 with external portals, payment processors (Stripe), or other SaaS platforms
- Azure integration services (Functions, Service Bus) or API development beyond the CRM
- Strong SQL
- Membership, certification, or credentialing systems experience
- Interest in growing toward integration, API, or agent engineering
