Job summary

LJC Design & Engineering is seeking a Critical Utilities Lead Engineer to drive planning, design, and delivery of clean and critical utility systems for life sciences manufacturing. You will collaborate with process, mechanical, architectural, and construction teams to ensure compliant, reliable utility solutions.

The role emphasizes project leadership, system architecture, and front-end support, with a focus on GMP/GxP standards and regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• 10–20+ years of experience designing critical and clean utility systems for life sciences manufacturing or regulated facilities.
• Experience leading the design of clean and critical utilities that support manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of GMP/GxP, FDA expectations, ISPE Baseline Guides, ASME, and related industry practices.
• Professional Engineer licensure preferred.
• Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and design of critical and clean utility systems for life sciences facilities from early planning through construction support.
• Develop system strategies for PW, WFI, clean steam, clean compressed air, and process gases where applicable.
• Coordinate with process engineers to align utility capacity, quality, redundancy, and regulatory requirements.
• Define GMP/GxP-compliant system architectures with reliability and maintainability in mind.
• Support front-end pursuits with proposals, narratives, and client presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design standards for life sciences utilities.
