Job summary

CyrusOne is seeking a Senior Critical Generator Specialist to lead the installation, operation, and maintenance of backup power systems in data center facilities. The role focuses on ensuring uninterrupted power, coordinating preventive maintenance, and guiding repairs across critical power infrastructure.

Ideal candidates have hands-on experience with large-scale generator systems, strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, and a background supporting 24/7 critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on generator maintenance in critical environments.
• In-depth knowledge of data center power infrastructure including generators, UPS, ATS, switchgear and electrical systems.
• Understanding of diesel, gas-powered and hybrid generators and related technologies.
• Experience with remote monitoring and diagnostic systems for generators and critical power systems.
• Familiarity with data center power redundancy (2N, N+1, etc.) and uptime best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee installation, commissioning, and configuration of generator systems in data centers.
• Integrate backup generators with UPS and ATS.
• Guide routine inspections and preventive maintenance for readiness.
• Test and monitor generator performance including load testing and fuel systems.
• Develop plans to monitor generator systems for faults and corrective actions.
• Remotely diagnose and troubleshoot generator issues and guide remediation steps.
• Respond quickly to power outages, ensuring smooth transfer to backup power sources.
• Utilize remote monitoring to track performance, fuel levels, and alerts.
• Prepare detailed system status and maintenance reports to support uptime.
• Coordinate with data center operations during tests, upgrades, and drills.
• Train team members on generator operation, maintenance, and safety.
• Recommend improvements for efficiency, capacity upgrades, or new technologies.
• Assist capacity growth projects for backup power systems.
• Ensure accurate service records and regulatory compliance for generators.
