Job summary

The City of Alexandria, Virginia is seeking an Emergency Services Senior Therapist – Court Coordinator to provide crisis assessments, rapid interventions, and psychiatric stabilization for residents within Alexandria city limits. The role also serves as the Court Coordinator, facilitating civil commitment hearings and managing the MOT program.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in human services and Virginia licensure (or license eligibility) with experience in crisis intervention

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in human services with at least 2 years of direct clinical services experience for psychiatric/substance use disorders.
• Virginia license as LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or Clinical Psychologist or license eligible with plan to obtain within 1 year.
• Senior Therapists must complete Pre‑screeners certification within 6 months of appointment.
• Knowledge of Virginia Code related to Emergency Custody Orders, Temporary Detention Orders, Civil Commitment, and Duty to Warn.

Responsibilities

• Assess and determine appropriate level of response for incoming calls and referrals.
• Interview and evaluate individuals in crisis; perform mental status exams and risk assessments.
• Conduct preadmission screenings to decide level of care and disposition.
• Provide continuity of care during non‑business hours including emergency assessments.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and testify in civil commitment proceedings using virtual platforms.
• Manage Mandatory Outpatient Treatment caseload and ensure court order adherence.
• Maintain clinical records in compliance with standards and regulations.
