Job summary

City of Alexandria is seeking an Emergency Services Senior Therapist to provide assessment, crisis intervention and psychiatric stabilization for residents in crisis. You will work as part of the Emergency Services Team within the Center for Adult Services, conducting evaluations, coordinating with agencies and ensuring proper documentation.

The role requires a current Virginia clinical license, 2+ years of crisis experience, and the ability to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Active clinical license in Virginia.
• 2+ years of experience with psychiatric crises.
• Experience in community settings or with severe mental illness.

Responsibilities

• Interview and assess individuals in crisis and determine disposition.
• Provide crisis intervention and psychiatric stabilization.
• Liaise with community agencies and make referrals as needed.
• Maintain clear and concise patient records per guidelines.
• Provide continuity of care when CSB is closed, via referrals and crisis support.
• Conduct pre‑admission screening for voluntary/involuntary hospitalizations.
• Coordinate outreach to other services and testify as an expert when required.
• Prepare court-related reports and participate in staff development.
