SNI Financial seeks a Commercial Credit Underwriter to manage underwriting and prudently handle commercial loans, including complex transactions, credit memos, and annual reviews.

The role involves analyzing financial data, structuring loan terms, talking with borrowers, pre-screening new loans, and supporting collateral monitoring and site visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics or Business-related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years related Commercial Credit Underwriting experience.
  • Formal credit training by a bank, institutional lender, or third-party training company such as Risk Management Association or American Bankers’ Association.
  • Credit Analyst should have the ability to apply the “Five C’s of Credit” to every loan.

Job description

This position is responsible for all aspects of underwriting and prudently managing commercial loans, many being complex in nature, including but not limited to: preparation of credit approval memos and annual reviews; spreading and analyzing financial data; making recommendations on loan structure; vetting the viability of new loan opportunities, renewals and modifications; and understanding and applying basic real estate valuation estimates.

In this position you will:

  • Underwrite credit approval memos, many being of a complex nature, annual reviews and modifications.
  • Conduct regular phone and email contact with borrowers, for reasons such as requesting financial information; asking underwriting questions; discussing the purpose of each loan; understanding the borrower’s business/financial goals and how the subject transaction fits in with them. The Credit Analyst should be a trusted member of the borrower’s financial team.
  • Pre-screening potential new loans and/or modifications & increases to existing loans.
  • Assist and cooperate with the Loan Servicing Team in clearing pre-closing conditions related to credit quality. Examples include: verification of liquidity; BSA/OFAC searches; review of leases; written explanations from borrowers of derogatory or unusual background findings; or similar items. While an understanding of loan documentation and related conditions such as insurance or lien releases is encouraged, it is not the direct responsibility of the Credit Analyst.
  • Coach and mentor Commercial Lending Credit Analyst(s) on an ongoing basis to strengthen their knowledge and skills for more complex deals.
  • Perform Collateral Monitoring by coordinating with Portfolio Analyst on procuring appraisals, environmental reports, construction reviews, or any other appropriate collateral monitoring reports.
  • Complete site visits/property inspections of collateral property located in the tri-county area (Dade; Broward; Palm Beach). Coordinate with Portfolio Analyst on procuring third-party site visits/property inspections for all collateral property located outside the tri-county area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be considered you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics or Business-related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years related Commercial Credit Underwriting experience.
  • Formal credit training by a bank, institutional lender, or third-party training company such as Risk Management Association or American Bankers’ Association. College courses in commercial lending are acceptable as well.
  • Credit Analyst should have the ability to apply the “Five C’s of Credit” to every loan:

  • Math Ability- Must have sound understanding of basic accounting and have the ability to calculate figures.
  • MS Office applications: Intermediate-to-Advanced Word and Excel.
  • Must have strong attention to detail to include solid data entry with limited errors.
  • Must possess the ability to remain calm, patient, objective, and professional when presented with difficult situations.
  • Must be able to work in a time sensitive environment, making sound decisions and communicating these decisions to stakeholders.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency with financial statement spreading.
  • Must be capable of working independently on larger, complex credit requests.
  • Must be able to review and analyze all member/customer financial information to ensure sound credit decisions.
  • Must be able to work in cohesive manner with Lender/Relationship officers and have ability to discuss results of loan reviews with loan officers to obtain a full understanding of the loan relationship.
  • Must have the ability to meet attendance standards and adhere to work schedule.
  • Must have the ability to write advanced level commercial credit memorandums.
