Job summary

Ives Bank is seeking a Commercial Credit Analyst to evaluate the financial condition of commercial borrowers, underwrite loan requests, and prepare high-quality credit approval memorandums in line with Bank policies.

The role requires analyzing financial statements, tax returns, collateral, and industry data, while presenting loan requests to appropriate authorities. Strong MS Office skills and effective communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics; ancillary banking education preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of related commercial underwriting experience
  • Knowledge of financial statement fundamentals, accounting concepts, and financial statement analysis required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and evaluation skills
  • Ability to work well with others and independently

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial information of borrowers and underwrite commercial loans per Loan Policy
  • Spread and analyze financial information and develop cash flows for borrowers
  • Prepare credit approval memorandums with risk analyses and supporting docs
  • Prepare independent credit quality assessments and highlight risks and mitigants
  • Make recommendations to management on credit issues
  • Coordinate with Commercial Lending Officers to obtain underwriting information
  • Communicate with borrowers, accountants, management and staff for credit investigations
  • Ensure CRA/HMDA compliance and bank policies are followed
  • Perform other duties as required

Job description

The Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for successfully evaluating the financial condition of commercial borrowers, underwriting loan requests and preparing a timely and high-quality credit approval memorandum, adhering to the Bank's credit policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze financial information of prospective and existing borrowers and underwrite commercial loans in conformance with Loan Policy, including loan renewals, loan modifications and loan reviews
  • Spread and analyze financial information, and develop cash flows of prospective and existing borrowers
  • Prepare credit approval memorandums, review all pertinent credit and financial information, including but not limited to financial statements, tax returns, collateral, cash flow, due diligence reports, credit bureaus, appraisals, industry research, peer data, and other appropriate information of borrowers and guarantors, assessing credit risk, if credit-worthy, underwriting in conformance with Loan Policy and presenting loan requests to appropriate loan authority level
  • Analyze financial information and related materials and complete the credit analyses for the Bank’s commercial transactions. Written analyses to include an independent credit quality assessment with well-supported risk rating, identification of and description of credit risks and mitigants, industry concerns, market trends, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues of respective deals
  • Analyze and make recommendations to management regarding credit issues
  • Work directly with Commercial Lending Officers to obtain all necessary information needed to underwrite loan requests
  • Communicate with borrowers, accountants, management and bank staff as needed for credit investigations
  • Is aware of and complies with CRA/HMDA Guidelines/Flood Insurance/Appraisal Regulations and adheres to Bank policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

Educational and Experience Requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required preferably in Accounting, Finance or Economics with ancillary banking education preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of related commercial underwriting experience.
  • Knowledge of financial statement fundamentals, accounting concepts, and financial statement analysis required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and evaluation skills
  • The ability to work well with others but can also work independently
