Job summary

Loudoun County Government seeks an experienced CPS Investigations & Assessments Evening Senior Specialist in the Department of Family Services to support after-hours child welfare interventions. The role emphasizes strong investigative judgment, supervisory readiness, and coaching in a fast-paced environment.

Key duties include responding to emergencies, conducting investigations into abuse and neglect, interviewing involved parties, and developing safety plans with trauma-informed practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and three (3) years of directly related experience in a human services area.
• Two (2) years of CPS Investigations and Family Assessments experience strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish and English preferred.
• Knowledge of child welfare systems, trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based service delivery.
• Experience working evenings, on-call rotations, or emergency response functions.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency child welfare situations and crisis calls after regular hours.
• Investigate serious allegations of abuse or neglect, including sexual abuse, human trafficking, severe neglect, and out-of-family investigations.
• Conduct comprehensive family assessments to evaluate child safety, risk, and service needs.
• Interview children, parents, guardians, and collateral contacts.
• Develop and implement safety plans and service recommendations.
• Apply trauma-informed, strengths-based practices in all casework activities.
• Document case activity accurately and timely in state and local systems.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, hospitals, schools, courts, and community providers.
• Lead, mentor, and provide work guidance to staff as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field

Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, or related field

Bilingual skills in Spanish and English
