Job summary

The County of Salem is seeking a County Engineer to lead county highway, bridge, stormwater, and transportation engineering programs in Salem, NJ. You will oversee planning, design, construction, and maintenance while coordinating with regional agencies.

Ideal candidates hold a New Jersey PE license and a civil engineering degree, with at least five years of government civil engineering leadership. Strong communication skills required for public and official engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of civil engineering experience with project management and supervisory responsibilities.
• Familiarity with CAD, GIS, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling and related engineering technologies.
• Strong public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English. U.S. residency required.

Responsibilities

• Administers county highway, bridge, railroad, stormwater, drainage, and transportation programs.
• Prepares, drafts, reviews engineering plans, contracts, cost estimates for technical accuracy.
• Plans and manages alterations to streets, highways, and facilities to improve traffic flow.
• Provides leadership, direction, and performance evaluation to staff and contractors.
• Represents the County with transportation agencies and coordinates permits and approvals.
• Oversees documentation of departmental activities, progress, and compliance.
