Job summary

The County of Monterey seeks an organized, dependable Chief Deputy County Counsel to provide legal secretarial and administrative support for attorneys and staff in the Office of the County Counsel.

This role represents the County in civil litigation, prepares legal documents, and provides advice to County officials on complex legal issues while supporting a team of attorneys in a four-division office.

Qualifications

• Two years experience as Deputy County Counsel IV or equivalent in a public agency.
• Current California State Bar membership by hire date is required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of civil, constitutional, and administrative law as it applies to public entities.

Responsibilities

• Represent the County in civil litigation, administrative hearings, and other proceedings.
• Provide legal advice to County officials and staff on significant matters.
• Draft opinions, motions, briefs, contracts, ordinances, and other legal instruments.
