Job summary

Phoenix House of New York - Long Island seeks a Senior Counselor to oversee clinical activities and supervise treatment environments within our Ronkonkoma residential program. You will manage crisis intervention, deliver individual and group therapy, and support staff and clients throughout the day.

Qualifications include a NYS independent license and CASAC certification preferred, with a minimum of three years in substance use disorders and at least one year in supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required, Bachelors preferred.
• Experience in substance use disorder treatment and supervision is valued.

Responsibilities

• Assists in supervision of CASAC counselors and supports during crises.
• Delivers individual and group therapy to assigned clients.
• Ensures program clients are supported throughout the day and coordinates with RSS supervisors.
• Participates in case conferences to assess progress and make treatment planning recommendations.
• Provides input for program effectiveness and staff training.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the supervision of CASAC counselors (when assigned) and providing needed support during crisis. Senior counselors should be involved in the crisis intervention.
• Handles a small caseload, delivering all treatment components to assigned patients; providing both individual and group therapy.
• Ensures that the clients in their respective program, building or floor are supported throughout the day and works with the RSS and RSS supervisors on the day-to-day concerns.
• Participates in case conferences to assess patient progress, where needed; makes recommendations for changes in treatment planning and advancement to the next treatment level.
• Makes recommendations regarding program effectiveness and needed revisions to a program design and/or policies and procedures.
• Provides input for annual counselor performance evaluations for the Clinical Supervisor’s and/or Program Director’s review.
• Teach and train staff in the clinical aspects of a treatment, rendering individual training whenever necessary.
• Assist with the oversight of the CASAC intern program and training and onboarding.
• Medication monitoring.

• Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in good standing, preferred
