Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is seeking a licensed attorney to provide legal advice, counsel and representation on workers' compensation and employee benefits matters. This role supports HR, risk management and operations across the authority's public health mission.

The attorney will handle claims before the Department of Industrial Accidents, negotiate settlements, oversee case management, and ensure compliance with FMLA, ADA, paid family leave and related laws.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum 7 years of legal experience involving workers' compensation and employment laws.
  • Admittance in good standing to the bar to practice law in Massachusetts state and federal courts.
  • Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • May be eligible for telework up to 50% of the work week; waiting period may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal analysis, counsel and support concerning all aspects of workers' compensation matters, including claims management.
  • Represents the Authority in, and handles all aspects and stages of, workers' compensation matters before the Department of Industrial Accidents and in court.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Risk Management, safety personnel, training staff, outside counsel and third-party administrator, among others, to address issues related to the workers' compensation program.
  • Assesses exposure and liability, negotiates settlements and other agreements, participates in mediations and adjudications, and tracks third-party liens.
