Job summary

Crowley, a privately held U.S.-owned company, seeks an experienced Assistant General Counsel, Shipping & Logistics to provide practical legal counsel across contracts, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution. The role focuses on end-to-end logistics services for an ocean carrier and related businesses, advising leadership and coordinating with outside counsel as needed.

The position requires a JD, active bar status, and 7+ years in logistics law, with a hybrid work model and opportunities

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school required; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
• 7+ years of progressive legal experience advising on logistics, transportation, and supply chain matters.
• Experience supporting logistics operations in an ocean carrier, freight forwarding, or 3PL environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to the Shipping & Logistics division on a broad range of matters, including contracts and regulatory issues.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret transportation and logistics agreements, carrier contracts, and related documents.
• Partner with division leaders and enterprise functions to assess legal implications and support responsible execution of operations.
• Manage or support cargo claims, disputes, investigations, and regulatory inquiries with internal and outside counsel.
• Advise on regulatory and trade compliance, including FMC/Shipping Act, customs, and sanctions; communicate risks to stakeholders.
