Job summary

Ellucian, a leading higher-education technology provider, seeks an Assistant General Counsel, Product and AI to join its global Legal team. You will advise on product development and AI initiatives across SaaS platforms.

You will partner with Product, Engineering, Privacy, and Risk teams to address privacy, data governance, IP, and regulatory matters while enabling innovation. The ideal candidate has a JD and 10–12+ years of tech and software experience, with a pragmatic, business-oriented

Qualifications

JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one US state bar.
10–12+ years of legal experience supporting technology, SaaS, cloud, data, and software businesses.
Experience counseling product, engineering, and technology teams on product development and commercialization matters.
Expertise in technology transactions, partnerships, software licensing, SaaS agreements, and commercial contracting.
Strong understanding of IP, data governance, privacy, AI, and emerging technology issues.
Experience advising on privacy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and digital services regulations.

Responsibilities

Serve as legal advisor to Product, Engineering, Data, Security, and Innovation teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Provide proactive legal guidance on SaaS, cloud, data, AI-enabled products and services.
Advise on product design, feature development, customer commitments, IP considerations, and regulatory requirements.
Partner with product and engineering teams to identify legal risks early and enable innovation.
Support roadmap initiatives by evaluating legal implications of new technologies and business models.
Address privacy and data-related legal considerations across the lifecycle.
Review data collection, use, sharing, retention, transfer, and security matters.
Collaborate with Privacy, Information Security, Compliance, and business stakeholders to mitigate legal risks.
Provide guidance on privacy and data protection obligations (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, FERPA, AI regulations).
Monitor regulatory developments and provide practical guidance to stakeholders.
