  • Juris Doctor and California law license required.
  • 8+ years of direct experience in charitable sector law.
  • Experience with fiscal sponsorship, exempt organization compliance, and election/advocacy law.
  • Ability to lead cross-department projects and manage external counsel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an authoritative internal resource on charitable exempt organization law within the assigned portfolio.
  • Advise executive leadership on complex legal grantmaking and investment questions incl. international grants.
  • Lead legal vetting of new service offerings and programs for Tides Foundation.
  • Review and negotiate contracts and governance documents; develop legal templates and policies.
  • Respond to subpoenas and investigations; coordinate with outside counsel.
