Job summary

Stand Together, Arlington, VA, seeks an in-house Counsel to advise on lobbying, issue advocacy, and political activity for nonprofit clients. Open to Senior Counsel with leadership potential.

You will partner with AFP and related entities, monitor federal, state, and local laws, and support strategic litigation and policy efforts. You will work cross-functionally with Finance, Grassroots, Operations, and Policy teams to balance risk with opportunity and provide actionable legal guidance to

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Virginia or eligible to qualify as Virginia in-house counsel.
• 3+ years of legal practice experience in any setting.
• Subject matter expertise in campaign finance law (state and/or federal) and lobbying laws/regulations.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills for non-lawyers.
• Experience using legal technology to enhance efficiency and work product.
• Track record of delivering actionable legal advice in fast-paced teams.
• Experience advising multi-entity non-profit organizations (501(c)(4), (3), (6)) and PACs.
• 1+ years implementing AI-powered legal tools in-house.

Responsibilities

• Be a Strategic Thought Partner with clients on strategies and operations, spotting legal issues and guiding next steps.
• Deliver Legal Excellence & Compliance by monitoring laws, enforcement actions, and using AI tools to spot trends.
• Collaborate with Finance, Grassroots, Operations, and Policy to solve problems and add organizational value.
• Educate & Train clients by translating dense laws into accessible guidance and training materials.
• Support Groundbreaking Litigation & Policy efforts, including First Amendment and free speech initiatives.
