Job summary

The Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct seeks an Associate Counsel to conduct confidential investigations into prosecutorial misconduct in New York State. The Associate Counsel will report to the Deputy Director of Investigations and lead teams of investigators, paralegals, and staff, drafting memoranda and reports with findings and recommendations.

Qualifications

• J.D. with at least 6 years of experience admitted to practice in New York.
• Excellent legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Litigation experience (depositions, trials, and/or appellate).
• Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate allegations of prosecutorial misconduct submitted to CPC.
• Engage in preliminary fact-finding and draft memoranda to aid in its determination of whether to open an investigation.
• Manage teams of investigators and administrative staff to execute investigations.
• Work collaboratively with CPC attorneys to investigate complaints.
• Draft reports summarizing the findings and provide recommendations to authorize formal complaints.
• Assist the Administrator and Deputy Director in preparing for hearings.
• Assist in presenting evidence at hearings.
• Conduct training sessions on legal matters and investigative techniques.
• Other special projects as needed to carry out statutory mandate.
