Job summary

J.P. Morgan's GAIS legal team in New York seeks a senior Legal Counsel to advise the Private Bank distribution business and oversee private funds across hedge funds, real estate, and private equity funds.

You will negotiate distribution letters, structure funds, implement regulatory changes, manage reputational risk, and coordinate with Compliance and Risk. The role requires a licensed attorney with 8+ years of relevant experience, strong drafting, negotiation, and the ability to work

Qualifications

• Excellent academic record.
• Licensed attorney in good standing in the relevant state/jurisdiction.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in law firms, financial institutions, or similar environments.
• Expert knowledge of onshore and offshore private funds, and fund transactions.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support to the GAIS group, primarily to the Private Bank distribution business.
• Advise on a wide range of legal issues related to investment management advice and products.
• Support regulatory developments, new product development, and product launches.
• Collaborate with Legal Department colleagues and control functions (Compliance, Risk) to resolve legal and reputational risk items.
• Advise on structuring, organizing, offering, and maintaining onshore and offshore private funds and funds of funds, including hedge funds and private equity funds.
• Oversee legal coverage for regulatory change implementation.
• Deliver legal support for special projects and cross-alternatives initiatives.
• Assist in developing policies, procedures, systems, and training materials.
• Provide advice for dispute resolution with counterparties.
• Engage and supervise external counsel when specialized expertise is required.
