Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Counsel, Engineering & Technology to partner with our Engineering and Innovation Labs, advising across the technology lifecycle from conception to deployment. The role emphasizes practical legal guidance for platforms, software, and advanced research initiatives.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and admission to practice in MN, TX, or Ontario; active license in good standing.
4+ years of experience in tech transactions, software licensing, data privacy or IP.
Familiarity with AI regulation, data privacy and cybersecurity laws, OSS licensing, IP law.

Responsibilities

Advise engineering and technology partners on legal issues across the development lifecycle for new platforms and capabilities.
Identify and manage risk related to software development, data usage, and emerging technologies.
Advise on legal implications of AI, ML, and frontier tech pilots and projects.
Develop regulatory compliance practices, especially in AI, data privacy, security, OSS usage, and IP laws.
Provide legal support for technology partnerships, licensing, integrations, and co‑development with providers and researchers.
Create and maintain training materials, playbooks, templates, and other legal resources for engineering teams.
