Job summary

Thomson Reuters Senior Counsel, Engineering & Technology is a key legal adviser in the General Counsel’s Office, supporting the Engineering and Technology organization including Innovation Labs. The role focuses on advising on regulatory, contractual, and reputational risks across the technology lifecycle from concept to deployment.

The position requires a JD and 4+ years in technology transactions, with familiarity in AI, data privacy, IP, and open source licensing.

Qualifications

• JD degree and admission to practice in Minnesota, Texas, or Ontario; active license in good standing.
• 4+ years of experience in law firms or corporate legal departments advising on technology transactions, software licensing, data privacy, or related matters.
• Familiarity with AI regulation, data privacy and cybersecurity laws, open-source licensing, and IP law.

Responsibilities

• Advise engineering and technology partners on legal issues across the technology lifecycle for new platforms and capabilities.
• Identify and manage risk related to software development, data usage, and emerging technologies with business-focused guidance.
• Support Innovation Labs on legal implications of research projects and AI/ML pilots, including frontier technologies.
• Advance compliance practices in AI, data privacy, security, open source, IP, and related regulations.
• Enable strategic technology partnerships, vendor/licensing arrangements, integrations, and co-development projects.
• Create and deliver training materials and legal playbooks for engineering, technology, and Innovation Labs teams.
