Travelers, a leading property and casualty insurer, seeks a Senior Counsel in West Virginia to manage high-exposure insurance defense matters and mentor junior attorneys. You will handle cases from inception through trial and appeal, delivering strategic outcomes for insured clients and the company.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in insurance defense, a JD, and an active license, with strong trial skills and leadership ability. This role offers robust compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
• 7 years experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the required state(s).
• Regularly handles hearings, trials and dispositive motions with transport flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of higher exposure cases and complex litigation.
• Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and strong persuasive writing.
• Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and strategy recommendations to insured clients and partners.
• Collaborate with experts to develop case strategies and testimony.
• Mentor junior attorneys and support staff; lead internal training.
• Manage client and partner relationships and seek new opportunities.
• Utilize technology and case management tools effectively; travel as needed.
