Job summary

Markel, a global specialty insurer, seeks a Senior Legal Counsel for Ceded Reinsurance to lead complex contract work across Bermuda, London, and the US. This role partners with ILS teams and reinsurers, structuring agreements and ensuring regulatory compliance while upholding Markel's global wording standards.

The role requires 8+ years in (re)insurance transactions, JD, and strong negotiation skills, with remote-capable collaboration in a cross-functional, global environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in (re)insurance transactional work.
• Fronting, quota shares, ILWs, collateralized ILS programs.
• BMA regulatory fluency and governance.
• Credit, collateral and concentration risk acumen.

Responsibilities

• Draft, edit and finalize contracts for outward reinsurance placements.
• Negotiate terms and ensure alignment with Markel's intent.
• Support ILS fronting and related agreements including quotas shares and ILWs.
• Structure trust agreements and RTFA frameworks for collateral.
• Advise on specialty products and ROR language.
• Coordinate Bermuda regulatory engagements and governance.
• Maintain standard wording library and master QS language.
• Lead cross-border negotiations with reinsurers and external counsel.
