OpenAI is seeking a counsel to lead legal responses to cybersecurity and AI safety incidents. You will advise on complex incidents from discovery to resolution, help develop legal frameworks for incident response, and partner with Privacy, Product, and Regulatory teams to assess obligations and communications.

The role involves establishing facts, guiding investigations, and turning lessons into durable safeguards and response processes, with a hybrid work model in Washington, D.C.

Formación

• A JD and a license or qualification to practice law in your jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience managing cybersecurity or privacy incident responses at a technology company, law firm, or government agency.
• Ability to translate technical findings into practical legal advice.
• Strong judgment under time pressure, clear communication of uncertainty, and knowing when to act or elevate.
• Clear, concise writing and ability to keep cross-functional teams aligned.
• Strong interest in AI safety and willingness to develop new approaches.
• Availability to participate in time-sensitive incident response, including occasional work outside normal business hours.

Responsabilidades

• Serving as legal lead on assigned cybersecurity and AI safety incidents, coordinating fact development, legal analysis and advising, cross-functional escalation, and follow-through with the response team.
• Working with investigators to understand incident scope, attack paths, root cause, and affected systems and data, and potential third-party impacts, while distinguishing facts from gaps in evidence.
• Managing outside counsel and third party service provider engagements necessary to incident response.
• Serving as key Legal point of contact for cross-functional teams.
• Partnering with Privacy, Product, Regulatory, and other counsel to assess notification and reporting obligations, advise on customer communications, and coordinate third-party outreach.
