Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a seasoned counsel to lead legal responses to cybersecurity and AI safety incidents from discovery through resolution. You will translate complex technical findings into practical legal guidance and help shape incident response frameworks.

Based in Washington, D.C. or San Francisco with a hybrid schedule, you will work with Privacy, Product, Regulatory, and other counsel to meet obligations and support safe, responsible deployment of OpenAI's technology.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity or technology incident responses.
• JD license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Experience collaborating with technical and cross-functional teams on investigations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as legal lead on cybersecurity and AI safety incidents with cross-functional escalation.
• Coordinate fact development, legal analysis, and advise on response actions.
• Manage outside counsel and third-party engagements for incident response.
• Act as main Legal point of contact for cross-functional teams.
• Assess notification and reporting obligations and coordinate communications.
• Prepare concise incident updates and decision materials for leadership.
• Develop escalation criteria, response playbooks, and post-incident improvements.
