In this role, you will lead the development of new Activity-Based Costing (ABC) models within CostPerform. You will also develop training guides and lead training sessions to educate others on how to use CostPerform and understand your model(s).

Core Job Responsibilities

A senior-level Subject Matter Expert role at Vergys is where seasoned consultants actively drive mission-critical financial management and modeling programs. Core responsibilities include:

Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:

CostPerform Model Configuration & Architecture: Build, configure, and maintain Activity-Based Costing models in CostPerform. Architect the cost pool(s), resource drivers, activity drivers, and allocation rules.

System Integration & Data Cleansing: Validate reports from federal financial systems, utilizing programs like PowerQuery or SQL to run scripts, detecting unmapped costs.

Architecture Audits & Diagnostic Reporting: Audit legacy charging taxonomies, analyze multi-year labor distribution trends, evaluate direct vs. indirect charging ratios, and author publication-ready Utilization and Gap Analysis Reports.

Taxonomy Modernization & Crosswalk Engineering: Author comprehensive Activity Code Lists and ABC Code Dictionaries; construct bi-directional crosswalk tables in MS Excel/SQL mapping legacy codes to modernized structures, collaborating with federal program leads to validate non-1:1 split allocations.

Model Unification & Dry-Run Testing: Lead the technical consolidation of separate agency cost models into a unified MMA CostPerform engine

Curriculum Design & Training: Develop training curricula (instructor guides, student manuals, 1-page operational cheat sheets); facilitate hybrid and virtual instructor-led training (vILT)

Embedded Support & Help-Desk Monitoring: Provide daily user advisory across CostPerform and Tableau, maintain a centralized help-desk support ticket log, and report recurring compliance trends to the client team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Successful candidates should possess high professionalism, value technical precision, and demonstrate strong leadership while meeting the following qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field.

Experience: 5–10 years of experience in federal cost accounting, budget formulation/execution, Activity-Based Costing (ABC), and financial modeling.

CostPerform Software Proficiency: Demonstrated hands‑on experience building, updating, and troubleshooting enterprise cost models in CostPerform.

Federal Systems Mastery: Proven experience extracting, reconciling, and validating data from federal accounting and timekeeping platforms (e.g., FBMS, QuickTime, NFC, PRISM, or equivalent).

Taxonomy & Crosswalk Design: Documented background establishing cost accounting structures, activity dictionaries, and bi-directional crosswalk tables for enterprise organizations.

Instructional Design & Training Delivery: Proven experience designing technical courseware and facilitating interactive training workshops for federal personnel.

Software Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced MS Excel modeling, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with SQL or relational databases for data manipulation.

Communication & Advisory: Strong executive briefing skills with the ability to translate complex cost allocation mechanics into actionable leadership presentations.

Security: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOI Public Trust clearance/suitability determination; U.S. citizenship required.

Nice-to-Haves:

Active Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or CPA license.

Experience with Tableau Desktop, Power BI, or QlikSense for executive financial dashboarding.

Experience modeling Technology Business Management (TBM) cost pools and towers.

Direct experience supporting Department of the Interior (DOI) bureaus (BSEE, BOEM, USGS) or federal regulatory fee-setting / rulemaking (OMB Circular A-25).

Experience with Python or automated ETL data pipelines for financial data cleansing.
