Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor to serve as the primary client interface, ensuring the delivery of a value-added cost management service aligned with client objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be comfortable in a client-facing role, self-motivated, driven, and capable of working independently and collaboratively. This role includes providing leadership, embedding, and promoting our company's purpose, values, and vision.

Responsibilities

• Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Provide cost estimates and planning, including producing and presenting final cost plans.
• Review and collaborate with design teams and general contractors on cost estimates.
• Reconcile changes and assist general contractors to ensure data accuracy.
• Communicate with general contractors and project managers to gather status information for cost updates.
• Prepare written comments on contractor submissions, including executive summaries.
• Coordinate cost information from various sources for discussions and supplier data.
• Inform engineering priorities based on cost impacts.
• Proactively resolve scheduling issues with minimal supervision.
• Manage cost checks, valuations, and ensure timely, accurate processes.
• Participate in post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
• Manage contingency and commitment tracking logs.
• Prepare funding presentations and coordinate value engineering sessions.
• Develop cost plans during the design phase and deliver updates at design milestones.
• Contribute to design optioneering and value engineering exercises.
• Review contractor and subcontractor pricing, leading negotiations to ensure fair contracts.
• Perform quantity surveying, cost control, and change management activities throughout projects.
• Ensure effective management of post-contract cost variances and change controls.
• Manage cost auditing, valuation, and validation processes.
• Produce monthly cost reports for clients and negotiate final accounts.
• Compile as-built cost records for benchmarking.
• Identify, coach, and mentor talent, celebrating team successes.
• Exhibit leadership and service excellence in line with company standards.
• Utilize internal software for financial tracking and reporting.
• Implement and maintain internal systems and methodologies to ensure best practices.
• Promote a one-business culture for optimal outcomes.
• Adhere to SOX controls where applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in cost management within the construction industry.
• RICS accreditation or working towards it.
• Experience leading cost management on medium to large, complex construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction industry technical matters, procurement routes, value management, and engineering.
• Excellent communication skills.
