Qualifications

• Experience with SAP in manufacturing; SAP S/4HANA preferred.
• Proficient in SAP GUI.
• Advanced Excel skills with pivot tables and data analysis.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication with cross-functional leadership.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and analyze standard costs, BOMs, routings, and product cost structures; lead periodic cost updates.
• Support new product costing, pricing, profitability analysis, and product cost valuation within the ERP system.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on standard costing and manufacturing cost structures.
• Analyze labor, material, overhead, scrap, yield, and production variances; identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and monitor manufacturing KPIs and provide actionable insights to Operations and Finance leadership.
• Manage inventory valuation, reserves, reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes while maintaining strong financial controls.
• Support month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT

A well-established manufacturing organization in the Greater Pittsburgh area is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join its finance team. This role will have significant responsibility for cost accounting, product costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing variance analysis, and operational financial reporting.

The Senior Cost Accountant will serve as a key financial partner to Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Finance leadership, providing analysis and insights that support profitability, cost reduction, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manufacturing cost accountant who enjoys working closely with plant and operational leadership and wants to have a direct impact on the business.

OVERVIEW OF THE SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT ROLE:

• Maintain and analyze standard costs, BOMs, routings, and product cost structures; lead periodic cost updates.
• Support new product costing, pricing, profitability analysis, and product cost valuation within the ERP system.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on standard costing and manufacturing cost structures.
• Analyze labor, material, overhead, scrap, yield, and production variances; identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and monitor manufacturing KPIs and provide actionable insights to Operations and Finance leadership.
• Manage inventory valuation, reserves, reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes while maintaining strong financial controls.
• Support month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and budget-to-actual analysis.
• Develop financial models and analysis to support operational decisions, including sourcing, productivity, and capital investments.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Finance teams on continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Track and report cost savings and translate operational results into meaningful financial insights for leadership.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting reports, dashboards, and analyses; identify opportunities to automate reporting and improve data accuracy.
• Support ERP costing functionality and system enhancements.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment preferred
• Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, manufacturing variances, and financial controls
• Experience working within SAP in a manufacturing environment; SAP S/4HANA preferred
• Experience with SAP GUI is highly desirable
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively with Finance, Operations, Plant, Supply Chain, and Engineering leadership
