Qualifications

• Proficiency in Excel and large dataset manipulation; strong GAAP knowledge for manufacturing.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting; ERP experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze standard and actual costs for manufacturing variances and prepare reports.
• Liaise with production teams to review variances, identify root causes and implement countermeasures.
• Provide financial support for cost improvement projects and track results.
• Analyze purchase price variance and report opportunities to Supply Chain.
• Partner with quoting team on product cost and profitability analyses for quotes.
• Provide margin analysis on new products and report gaps between actual and quoted margins.
• Prepare reports comparing actual vs budgeted operational costs and track reductions.
• Analyze inventory trends and projections to reduce balance sheet risk.
• Maintain productivity reporting and collaborate with Operations on errors and inefficiencies.
• Contribute to special projects as required.

Position Summary

The Sr. Cost Accountant position is responsible for providing insight into manufacturing variances, overhead expenses, and inventory. The Sr. Cost Accountant identifies process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and growth projections. They work closely with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances and inefficiencies.

Principal Responsibilities

• Review and analyze standard and actual costs for manufacturing variances and prepare reports
• Liaise with the production teams on a regular basis, reviewing significant job cost variances for root cause identification, and ultimately counter measure actions
• Providing financial support for cost improvement projects, tracking and reporting
• Analyze purchase price variance, preparing reports for Supply Chain with improvement opportunity recommendation
• Partner with the quoting team, participating in special projects, product cost and profitability analysis, and in the preparation of quote packages as necessary
• Provide margin analysis reviews on newly introduced products, highlighting actual vs. quoted margin gaps
• Prepare reports comparing actual vs budgeted operational costs and track any reduction actions
• Analyze inventory trends and future projections to assist in reducing balance sheet risk
• Maintain productivity reporting and collaborate with Operations on errors and inefficiencies
• Work on special projects as required

Qualification Requirements

Credentials/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar and three (3) to five (5) years in manufacturing cost accounting experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus
• Significant hands‑on experience using an integrated ERP system
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
• Understanding of U.S. GAAP as it applies to a manufacturing environment is required
• Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Extraordinary interpersonal skills to work in conjunction with other departments.
• Must be a team player who also works well independently.
• Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations.
