Job summary

Allison Transmission in Indianapolis is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to set up and maintain accurate cost information, manage the perpetual inventory system, and analyze warranty data. You will drive monthly closes and prepare cost and variance reports for leadership.

You will work with auditors, maintain cost accounting policies, and support internal controls testing while collaborating across global teams. Experience with SAP and Excel is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent is required.
• 3–5 years of financial analysis and/or accounting experience.
• Knowledge of US GAAP and ERP systems is expected.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly and quarterly close tasks with proper cut-offs.
• Prepare and post general ledger journal entries.
• Analyze financial data and generate management reports.
• Assess employee benefit liabilities and cost reports.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items.
• Assist in overhead budgeting and inventory standards.
• Support global warranty and extended coverage liability analysis.
• Coordinate with auditors on audits and internal controls testing.

Job Description

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for setting up and maintenance of accurate cost information, maintenance of perpetual inventory system, Warranty and Extended Transmission Coverage analysis, and monthly financial close.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform monthly and quarterly financial close tasks to ensure proper cut-off for assets, liabilities, and expenses.
• Prepare and post general ledger journal entries.
• Analyze financial data and generate financial reports for management.
• Analyze employee benefits to ensure liabilities are appropriately stated and prepare cost reports for management.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items.
• Assist in analyzing overhead budget and establishing inventory standards.
• Provide analysis in support of global warranty liabilities, extended coverage liabilities and expenses to upper management.
• Maintain accounting policies and procedures related to cost accounting activities.
• Work closely with internal and external auditors on financial audits and internal controls testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Business accounting major or equivalent required
• 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis and/or accounting
• Understanding of US GAAP Principles
• Experience with SAP or comparable ERP system
• Exceptional computer skills; expertise with Microsoft Excel
