Job summary

THG is seeking a Senior Chemist (R&D) to lead formulation and development of personal care, cosmetic, and OTC products at Bentley Laboratories in Edison, NJ. You will perform hands-on formulation, lab batch prep, stability testing, and customer sample submissions while collaborating with Sales, Lab Technicians, and material vendors.

A BS in cosmetic science/chemistry/biochemistry with 7+ years of experience is required; a MS is preferred; strong project management and documentation skills are

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in cosmetic science, chemistry or biochemistry; Masters preferred.
• 7+ years in developing products with formulation knowledge (emulsions, gels, sprays, shampoos).
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects.
• Development of stable and compliant personal care, cosmetics and OTC products
• Timely shipment of lab samples to customers/marketing/testing facilities
• Continual and ongoing collaboration/communication of the status of project to Sales Executives
• Documentation of detailed observations and specifications
• Learning of new technology via researching new raw materials and processes
• Establishing preliminary product specifications and detailed lab process

Responsibilities

• Review new Product development requests and coordinate with SEs; assign tentative completion dates.
• Develop new formulations with in-depth knowledge of ingredients and processing.
• Prepare lab batches of formulas for customer analysis and reformulate as needed.
• Maintain organized lab notebooks with observations during testing.
• Develop detailed lab-scale processes including formulation steps and parameters.
• Provide technical support to Sales and customers; participate in account meetings.
• Collaborate with lab technicians to plan and execute bench work and sample submissions.
• Perform and monitor stability testing; reformulate if necessary.
• Meet with raw material vendors to learn about new technologies and materials.
• Communicate formulation, project status, costs, and results to stakeholders.
• Collaborate across R&D with team to share ideas and maintain confidentiality.
• Perform calibration/validation of lab instruments and keep the area organized.
