Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to any security post on any shift.
• Serves as the initial Commander during emergency situations.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of all Correctional Officers and Sergeants assigned to a shift.
• Delegates post assignments, specific duty assignments, coordinates leave use and ensures attendance and leave reports.
• Works with lead officers to ensure proper security coverage and conducts counseling with staff to outline problem areas and assign duties.
• Supervises searches for contraband and conducts daily inspections of buildings and grounds.
• Functions as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
• Performs crisis intervention and uses approved force when necessary.
