Job summary

Charlotte Correctional Institution in Florida is hiring for a Correctional Officer Sergeant. This is an internal promotional opportunity for current Florida Department of Corrections employees. Salary will be determined per current pay procedures.

The role involves supervising inmates, enforcing rules, and ensuring security. The incumbent will oversee housing units, conduct head counts, transport inmates, and perform crisis interventions as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates and manages housing areas according to risk level.
• Conducts accurate head counts and maintains custody and control.
• Transports inmates using approved restraints and follows laws and policies.
• Performs crisis intervention including subduing or restraining inmates with approved force.
• Maintains facility security including searches of inmates and property.
• Provides emergency assistance (CPR, first aid, evacuations) as required.
• Directs Officers in supervising inmates and in reporting and records.
• Attends mandatory training and other required duties.
