Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officers and Sergeants on assigned shifts; serve as initial Commander during emergencies.
• Plan, organize and coordinate activities of officers and sergeants on a shift.
• Delegate post and duty assignments; coordinate leave usage and attendance records.
• Oversee searches for contraband and daily inspections of buildings and grounds; maintain security standards.
• Function as facility manager during non-administrative hours and ensure safety compliance.
• Conduct training and performance evaluations; recommend disciplinary actions.
• Supervise inmate housing and security, transport inmates under lawful procedures.
• Assist in crisis intervention and use of force within policy; maintain order and safety.
