We are seeking to fill two (2) openings for Senior Corporate Media Specialist
Job Summary

The Senior Corporate Media Specialist is an integral part of the CenterPoint Energy Corporate Communications team and collaborates with operations, customer, government relations, regulatory departments, and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance CenterPoint’s reputation and proactively tell the company’s positive story. The senior corporate media specialist will be responsible for the development, management, and execution of external communication plans, spokesperson duties, and on-camera proactive storytelling across channels and emergency response duties. This role will focus on implementing best practices and protecting and enhancing the company’s reputation and image.

Essential Functions
  • Acts as a company spokesperson, conducting interviews with media and engaging the public at business meetings and events. Serves on an after-hours media duty rotation, including occasional weekends.
  • Provides strategic guidance, identifies effective tactics, and evaluates results as a Corporate Communications representative.
  • Participates in emergency response communications team activities and may work extensive hours during a crisis.
  • Communicates effectively across all channels, including digital and social media.
  • Communicates complex information in an easily understandable manner.
  • Provides proactive counsel on strategic direction to corporate leadership, business leaders, colleagues, and stakeholders, focusing on achieving business objectives.
  • Develops and implements strategic internal and external communication plans, including key messages, strategies, timing, channels, and analytics.
  • Supports CenterPoint Energy’s business imperatives in Texas through various communication strategies and tactics.
  • Coordinates media and public speaking training for executives and staff involved in external communications.
  • Develops and manages production of communication materials such as news releases, fact sheets, articles, presentations, speeches, videos, emails, intranet articles, brochures, posters, and digital signage.
  • Implements best practices and proactively improves processes and deliverables.
  • Collaborates with graphic designers, marketing specialists, and social media teams to produce effective communication materials.
Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Strategic Communications, Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Minimum 5 to 7 years of communications experience, including experience as a company/organization spokesperson, crisis response (including Incident Command System), producing communication materials, and working with senior leaders. Experience in integrated multi-channel communications, translating technical info for lay audiences, and leveraging digital and traditional channels is essential.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in Spanish (preferred but not required).
  • Media/journalism reporting experience.
  • Experience in the energy sector or utility industry.
  • Experience within a matrix organization.
  • Broad experience in both corporate and agency communications.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible, with excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong project and time management skills.
