Job description

We are seeking to fill two (2) openings for Senior Corporate Media Specialist


Job Summary


The Senior Corporate Media Specialist is an integral part of the CenterPoint Energy Corporate Communications team and collaborates with operations, customer, government relations, regulatory departments, and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance CenterPoint's reputation and proactively tell the company's positive story. The senior corporate media specialist will be responsible for the development, management, and execution of external communication plans, spokesperson duties, and on-camera proactive storytelling across channels, including emergency response duties. This role will focus on implementing best practices and protecting and enhancing the company's reputation and image.


Essential Functions



  • Acts as a company spokesperson, conducting interviews with media and engaging the public at business meetings and events. Serves on an after-hours media duty rotation, including occasional weekends.


  • Serves as a Corporate Communications representative, providing strategic guidance, identifying effective tactics, and evaluating results.

  • Serves on the emergency response communications team and may work extensive hours during a crisis response.

  • Communicates effectively across all channels, including digital and social media.

  • Communicates complex information in an easily understandable manner.

  • Provides proactive counsel on strategic direction to corporate leadership, business leaders, colleagues, and stakeholders, focusing on achieving business objectives.

  • Develops and implements strategic internal and external communication plans, including key messages, strategies, timing, channels, and analytics for measuring results.

  • Develops and executes communication strategies supporting CenterPoint Energy's business imperatives in Texas, both electric and gas, and positions the company's services with key audiences.

  • Implements strategic communication plans for regulatory and government affairs initiatives.

  • Coordinates media and public speaking training for executives, managers, and staff involved in external communications.

  • Produces various communication materials, including news releases, fact sheets, articles, presentations, speeches, videos, emails, intranet articles, brochures, posters, and digital signage.

  • Implements best practices and proactively improves processes and deliverables.

  • Collaborates with graphic designers, marketing specialists, and social media teams to produce attractive and effective communication materials.

Education Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Strategic Communications, Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited college or university.



Experience



  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of communications experience.


  • Experience as a company/organization spokesperson.

  • Experience in crisis response, including Incident Command System (ICS).

  • Experience producing communication materials such as news releases, statements, key messages, talking points, and speeches.

  • Experience working with and advising senior leaders.

  • Experience with multi-channel communication strategies.

  • Ability to translate technical information into layperson's terms.

  • Proven skills in leveraging digital and traditional channels for impactful communications.

  • Ability to craft substantive communications quickly.

  • Strong multi-tasking skills.
