Heathcote Search Group in New York is seeking a Senior Corporate Bond Trader to join our investment management team. The role focuses on investment-grade corporate bonds with the ability to trade IG and high-yield credits, taking and managing risk while generating differentiated ideas.

Qualifications

• 7–20 years of relevant experience in corporate bond trading or a closely related credit trading role.
• Direct experience trading investment-grade corporate bonds, ideally with high-yield exposure.
• Demonstrated history of taking investment risk and actively managing positions.
• Strong understanding of corporate credit markets, market structure, liquidity, relative value, and portfolio construction.
• Experience generating independent trade ideas and expressing investment views through positions.
• Strong risk management discipline within a defined investment process.
• Ability to collaborate with portfolio managers, analysts, and quantitative professionals.
• Strong communication skills and ability to articulate theses, risks, and outcomes.

Senior Corporate Bond Trader — Investment Management

Position Overview

An established, institutional investment management firm is seeking a Senior Corporate Bond Trader to join a growing credit investment team. The role will focus primarily on investment-grade corporate bonds , with the ability to trade across both IG and high-yield credit.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced corporate bond trader who has demonstrated an ability to take and manage investment risk, generate differentiated trade ideas, and build portfolios—not simply execute trades or conduct fundamental research. This is an opportunity to join a developing platform with significant capital and market exposure, working closely with experienced portfolio managers, credit analysts, and quantitative professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement investment ideas across the corporate credit markets, with a particular emphasis on investment-grade credit.
• Trade both IG and high-yield corporate bonds, identifying relative-value and directional opportunities across sectors, issuers, maturities, and structures.
• Build and manage portfolios within an established, disciplined investment framework.
• Generate actionable trade ideas based on market technicals, relative value, fundamental developments, positioning, and other relevant market factors.
• Take measured investment risk and actively manage positions as market conditions evolve.
• Work closely with portfolio managers and credit research professionals to translate fundamental and quantitative insights into positions.
• Contribute to portfolio construction, risk management, and ongoing evaluation of exposures.
• Operate within a systematic and disciplined investment process while exercising judgment in identifying opportunities.
• Help build out the firm’s corporate credit trading capabilities as the strategy grows.

Candidate Profile

The firm is particularly interested in candidates with:

• 7-20 years of relevant experience in corporate bond trading or a closely related credit trading role.
• Direct experience trading investment-grade corporate bonds, ideally complemented by high-yield experience.
• A demonstrated history of taking investment risk and managing positions, rather than operating solely as an execution trader or research analyst.
• Strong understanding of corporate credit markets, market structure, liquidity, relative value, and portfolio construction.
• Experience generating independent trade ideas and expressing investment views through positions.
• Strong risk management discipline and comfort operating within a defined investment process.
• The ability to collaborate effectively with portfolio managers, analysts, and quantitative professionals.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate trade theses, risks, and expected outcomes.

Role Characteristics

This is not an execution-only trading role . The successful candidate will be expected to contribute investment ideas, take risk within established parameters, and participate meaningfully in portfolio construction. The team operates with a disciplined and structured investment process, while giving traders meaningful room to identify opportunities and express views within their area of expertise. The role is designed for an experienced trader who can operate independently without requiring constant direction, while remaining highly collaborative with the broader investment team.

This team is at an early stage of building out its capabilities, providing an opportunity to have meaningful influence on the development of the strategy and portfolio.

Team

The trader will work alongside a senior investment team comprising portfolio management, experienced credit analysts, and quantitative resources. The broader platform has a multi-manager structure with dedicated risk management, research, and portfolio construction capabilities.

Compensation

Variable based on experience; salary of ~$250-$300k; Total Comp: ~$700-$900k

Location

New York City / Greenwich investment management platform.
